School to re-open Monday 11th January
Unless there is more snow on Sunday evening/night, school will re-open on Monday at 10.00am. This later start will give staff a bit of time to ensure the school is completely safe before children arrive.
The roads around school continue to be very icy and snowy - it is essential that parents do not drive down Milman Road as there is a very high risk of becoming stuck in the snow. Turning round will be extremely difficult and we need to make sure that pedestrians are safe from skidding and sliding cars. I have requested RBC to clear the bottom end of Milman Road, but this has not yet happened.
Those of you who live some distance from the school and usually drive will need to make a decision about whether you can either walk to school or use public transport. If you live within walking distance, please make your way by foot if you feel it is safe for you to do so. If your child does come to school, please ensure they have appropriate clothing and footwear - you may wish to send in a spare set of socks! I don't mind children not wearing their school shoes if this makes life easier for you! I'm not sure if we will have school meals available so please bring a packed lunch for Monday. The priority remains safety - when you come to school, worry more about getting there safely and less about being on-time!
If you feel your child is unable to attend school then we do expect them to do some schoolwork:
- All children have Mathletics activities assigned; these will be updated daily. All children can also access spelling activities using the same log-in details.
- Y6: go to the BBC KS2 Bitesize Website and complete some of the activities there.
- Y5: write a report about the recent snowy weather and the impact this has had on your community.
- Y4: write a detailed description of the view of the snow from your bedroom window; use as much descriptive language as you can.
- Y3: write a snowy poem based on what you have seen, felt, heard etc
- Y2: write about the the things you have done during the recent snow days
- YR and Y1: create a piece of snowy art work - this can be a picture, painting or a photograph of your snowman; write some simple sentences describing your art work.
