Solar Schools Project

Introducing 10:10's Solar Schools project.

Solar Schools is an innovative new project to help schools crowdfund the cost of solar panels from their local community. More at: www.solarschools.org.uk

As of Feb 2012 we're half way through a pilot with eight schools, which has proved the model works. Of the eight pilot schools, five will get solar panels through our scheme in 2012. These five pilot schools raised or are set to raise £10-£15,000 on average and as a result, will enjoy the following benefits:

  • savings of £5,575 on electricity bills (over 25 years)
  • additional revenue of £38,200 (from the feed-in tariff for 25 years)
  • reduction in Co2 of 1,785kg per year
  • educational benefits from having solar panels and energy display monitors
  • stronger links with their communities

Of the remaining three schools in the pilot: one is still fundraising and planning to install panels in 2013, one found their roof was too shady, and one decided to take advantage of a free solar installation from their Local Authority after being inspired by our project.

10:10 is running the Solar Schools pilot and potentially planning a larger rollout with 100 schools across the UK in 2012.

If you're a school interested in taking part please register here: www.solarschools.org.uk/registerinterest

We're looking for funding for the national rollout so if you might be able to help please contact lizzie@1010global.org

If you're inspired and you'd like to donate to a school, go to the Solar Schools homepage, and pick a school!

Big thanks to the staff and pupils at New Christ Church school for starring, and www.hiflynest.com for the pro-bono brilliance.

Welcome to New Christ Church Primary School

A message from the Head Teacher

Stacey Howarth, Acting Headteacher.

At New Christ Church, we are proud of our distinctive ethos and our caring atmosphere, where everyone is encouraged to feel part of a strong family, all working together to meet the needs of all our children. Recent inspections have highlighted pastoral care as a real strength of the school. We hope that your child will grow into a well-rounded, happy and curious learner in an environment where they feel safe and well supported.

As a Church school, we aim to serve our local community, which is diverse, dynamic and exciting! Underpinning our work are the Christian values of love, compassion, gentleness, friendship, kindness, joy and self-control.

This web site aims to give you a taste of school-life, as well as providing regular updated information for both parents and pupils.

Visits to the school from prospective parents are warmly welcomed; please telephone the school office to make an appointment, and I will be delighted to show you round!

Stacey Howarth, Headteacher
